Biography
I started practicing art since a very early age and continued to develop it until I joined the physics department in Debub University, in Ethiopia in 2001. Two years later I stopped studying Physics and joined Addis Ababa University’s Ale school of Fine Arts and Design and graduated with a B.A in Art Education in 2008.
Since graduation,I have experimented with several concepts and techniques ranging from performances, painting and mixed media to generate body of work. My works are emphasising the history of each components and the process of creation. I usually creates my artworks intuitively from a range of found materials, functional objects around my surroundings. Through my works I try to raise critical discussions towards consumerism, climate change, impacts of technology on society etc..I also intend to blur the boundaries among scientific thinking, philosophy and art through my works.
After graduation I helped found a unique artist collective in Ethiopia named Netsa Art Village with other 10 Ethiopian Artists in 2009, an artists collective dedicated to showcase experimental art works and engage the community with the local and international art practice.
I have exhibited my art works as well as performed in different venues internationally including Hamburger Bahnhof Museum of Modern art, German cultural Institute Addis Ababa, Berlin Kühl Hause, Asni Gallery, Alliance Ethio-Française, Leipzig international Art residency program (LIAP), British Council Dare Salaam, Kunsthall Oslo etc... Simultaneously I has participated in different art workshops, art residency, and art Festivals in internationally .
Since 2017 I am based in Berlin, Germany, continue experimenting and developing my works in my studio.
